15th century Manor Manoir du 15ème
This manor house was built around the end of the 15th century. When the current owners discovered it, it had been severely neglected and was little more than a ruin overgrown and surrounded by land dotted with old machinery and detritus from the contemporary world... 500 years of history were on the verge of being erased. It has taken 10 years of painstaking work to restore it to its former glory. Extensive research was carried out by the owners and specialist, local craftsmen drafted in who replicated ancient building skills and techniques from the 15th century to ensure that the manor house was rebuilt as closely as possible to how it would have originally been. The interior is tastefully completed with its myriad of rooms, landings and periodic features. In the grounds of this country estate stand two other buildings as testament to the era. The first is the chapel, a pretty building with its flagstone floor, vaulted ceilings and paintings, which tell an interesting story of their own. The second is the barn with its own tower, interesting not only for its size but for its construction and style.

One enters the estate through a stone archway dating from the 14th century and the drive sweeps up from here through the gardens to the house. The manor and the chapel form an ‘L’ shape partly enclosing a south facing courtyard with its ancient stone well. The mullioned windows of the manor, some protected behind wrought iron bars, overlook the 2 hectares of mature gardens surrounding the property in which over 500 trees have been planted.

The manor has a simple architectural construction, typical of the Breton region for this kind of residence. Its identity is marked by its two turrets, one of which contains the monumental granite staircase, the other containing the ancient latrines. The main entrance is on the northern side, a grand portal which opens directly into the living room. On the left, is a huge fireplace beyond which is a ‘cosy’. The ceiling of the room has original great exposed beams and the floor is of terracotta. There is a beautiful fitted kitchen in keeping with style of the house and a second cooking area separated by an oak partition. There is also a bathroom on this floor.

The granite staircase ascends to the first floor and opens out onto a stunning lounge/dining/reception room which has its open fireplace and also into the first bedroom which has a closed bed and open fireplace. There is a second bedroom on the right, with a lovely oak partition wall.

Environment: On the edge of a village, amenities are within walking distance. Residential to the north side, the southern side has a rural outlook over fields and woodland. A railway line passes a few hundred meters away. 10 années d'efforts, des artisans avertis et respectueux du lieu et des techniques d'autrefois, une étude historique pointue visant à recréer un habitat en harmonie avec son époque... c'est le cocktail gagnant qui a permis d'aboutir aujourd'hui à ce bond en arrière aussi réussi qu'impressionnant, et qui transforme ce retour aux sources en plaisir au quotidien.

Deux dépendances complètent ce tableau :
Une chapelle marquée par ses dalles qui se signent face à l'autel et ses murs qui racontent leur histoire... mais une destination « artistique » de ce lieu pourrait accueillir des activités liées à la musique, peinture, sculpture ou autre, en synergie avec la véritable invitation à la création qu'il propose. L'autre dépendance est une grange avec sa tourelle à aménager, remarquable par son style et ses volumes.

A l'extérieur, l'entrée se fait par le parc en suivant le chemin débouchant sur la double porte d'enceinte datée du 14ème. Le manoir et la chapelle forment un L à l'intérieur duquel la cour est délimitée au sud par le puits en pierres. Les fenêtres à meneaux ornées pour certaines de leur grille en fer forgé, regardent le jardin se reconstruire, car sur les 2 ha entourant la propriété, plus de 500 arbres ont été plantés sur le domaine et constituent une barrière végétale d'un bon niveau de maturité.

Descriptif : Les plans d'intérieur sont dans l'espace photos. Le manoir a une architecture simple, calquée sur le modèle d'une typique demeure Bretonne - avec son identité marquée par ses deux tourelles, l'une abritant un escalier monumental en granite, l'autre étant les anciennes latrines.

L'entrée se fait côté Nord, par une large porte en bois donnant directement dans le séjour. A gauche, une cheminée monumentale prolongée par une avancée forme un petit salon. Le séjour expose ses poutres d'origine avec un sol orné de terre cuite. Plus loin, une cuisine équipée et une arrière cuisine camouflée derrière sa cloison en chêne - une salle de bains est aussi aménagée dans l'arrière du manoir.

On accède à l'étage par un escalier en granite qui distribue une première chambre avec son lit clos et sa cheminée dans le prolongement, puis à gauche un salon de réception avec cheminée, suivi d'une chambre derrière sa cloison en chêne. L'accès au second se fait par un escalier à vis en chêne et distribue 2 chambres sous combles (dont une double).

Environnement : En bordure du village, le centre avec commerces est à 800 m. L'environnement immédiat côté Nord est construit - Le côté sud donne sur une campagne avec bois et champs. Une ligne de chemin de fer passe à quelques centaines de mètres.
